Are Portsmouth really ready to sell David Nugent?
I don’t get this, so hopefully a Portsmouth fan can explain this one.
There have been plenty of rumours over the last couple of weeks about how Portsmouth are willing to use David Nugent as a make-weight in any agreement for a new striker - first it was after Portsmouth showed an interest in Yakubu (who’s off to Everton) and then it was when Portsmouth were rumoured to be after Nicolas Anelka.
And then there are rumours that Derby might be willing to take David Nugent off Pompey’s hands as well.
Now considering that Nugent has just come to Portsmouth I’m pretty sure that this is just hogwash, but what I can’t figure out is WHY this rumour has started. It’s not as if Portsmouth lack money, or that Nugent has had a fallout with Harry (none that I’ve read off).
So can you guys help out here? Why the silly rumours?

Its exactly that, they are silly rumours. They were started when Nugent was “dropped” for the Bolton game, in most other clubs this would be called squad rotation.
Most Pompey fans I know think Nugent needs a bit of time to adjust but for the time being he may be another Benjani, works hard creates chances just doesnt score.
its media trash nugent aint going nowhere
As the dudet said ‘JenniP’ he wasnt that good at Derby, walking around and not getting back at all, no goals yet and doing less work that benjani.
But we cant sell him now, it world be a big loss in money for us and worldnt do him any good moving around, needs time to settle for O’neil and Taylor to play along side him passing balls in to him by the looks of it and with Benjani a bit behind.
Being a pompey fan i would hate to see him leave despite his bad start. He’s a young english striker with alot of potential. Unfortunately he seems to have joined the club at the wrong time, last season we had Kanu, Benjani, Cole and Lua Lua.
Kanu was fantastic for the first half of the season then seemed to lose interest towards the end.
Benjani was a fantastic player who many pompey fans respected becuase of his determination and wilingness to give 100% every game. However his finsihing let him down badly - only scoring 6 times all season.
Lua Lua was dissapointing last season and has lost the fans, he was selfish and gave the ball away to much. He has now moved to olympiakos.
Cole was a non-entity last season at best he could come of the bench and casue the defence problems, he has been released I belive.
If Nugent had joined last season he could easily have beaten off Kanu, Cole and Lua Lua and forged a decent striking partnership with Benjani, with Benni playing behind him and feeding him balls.
However this season its all change for Pompey, Kanu is determined to regain his place that Utaka has taken from him. Utaka has performed fantastically so far his goal against bolton a highlight, he’s scored 2 in 3. and Benjani seems a completely different player so far, also scoring 2 goals in 3 matches.
It seems that Benjani and Utaka are first choice strikers whilst kanu and Nugent will both be fighting it out to keep place as a substitute. And at the mometn Kanu has the advantage having already proved himself to be a goalscorer from last season, whereass Nugent has yet to find the back of the net. He obviously has the ability to score but until he gets his first goal he is going to struggle to get games.
My prediction:
Benjani and Utaka - First choice strikers
Kanu - On the bench
Nugnet - Reserves?
