Are England Automatic Favourites To Qualify For Euro 2012?

England may be the overwhelming favourites with the bookies to qualify for Euro 2012 as winners of Qualification Group G but their group is not as easy as it seems and after a disappointing World Cup many will be willing to now take England on.

The Euro 2012 Odds make England long odds on to win Group G (around 2/5 with most bookies) but with Switzerland, Bulgaria and a Gareth Bale inspired Wales also in the group it may not be as plain sailing as many England fans hope.

England are a best price 12/1 to win the European Championships going into their first match of the campaign (and wearing the new England home kit). You can be sure those odds will be much shorter should England qualify but perhaps the fact that England are available at such a big price means that people are cottoning on to the fact that England can no longer expect to be considered an automatic favourite for the major tournaments.

Given the choice between 4/1 on Spain or 12/1 on England most fans would still pick Spain to win Euro 2012.

Friday night’s match against Bulgaria, ocsees England start as hot favourites (around the 1/3 mark) and then England face a trip to Switzerland to take on the team that beat Spain in the World Cup.

England are likely to be odds against to win that game and that certainly sees more realistic expectations from England, although if England do fail to win the match you can be sure there will be many calling for England boss Fabio Capello’s head. He will have to hope the likes of Kieran Gibbs and a rejuvenated Theo Walcott will breathe new life into the England Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.
