Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera in a candid interview with El Pais has said he maintains a low profile at the club and keeps a distance with manager Louis van Gaal.

Herrera, who joined last summer, has initially struggled to make a strong impression, but has featured regularly in the second half of the season, earning the faith of his manager.

The 25-year-old has scored three goals for United this season and has managed four assists to his name, including a delightful pass to Juan Mata against Liverpool at Anfield.

The young Spanish midfielder says Van Gaal is a strong character to whom every single player in the team has equal merit.

Herrera, who excelled under Marcelo Bielsa at Athletic Bilbao says Van Gaal is opposite to his former manager in his philosophy and outlook.

While Bielsa believed in running with the ball, Van Gaal believes in numerical superiorities in the wings and in triangles.

Herrera adds that Van Gaal likes prolonged possession and believes in creating spaces while staying at the right place.
