Following his successful time at Lens from 2004-2006, he was linked with every major French club and a couple of clubs abroad mainly Roma and Tottenham. But Lyon snatched him up that summer to replace the departed Mammadou Diarra (real Madrid). Needless to say, the club never gave him much playing time in the DM position and opted to transform Toulalan from a natural CM into a DM. Thus, Diarra was chucked out after one season to Bordeaux and has been spectacular for them since. In a cruel twist of fate, he completely bossed the midfield; Lyon DM duo Toulalan and Makoun were anonymous and his goal over the weekend downed his former employers! The Brazilian is a cheeky reference to Marseille's Brazilian striker Brandao who joined over the winter from Shaktar Donetsk. Eric Gerets was the only manager to conduct some business in January while Lyon, who desperately needed some attacking threat & defensive cover played the role of spectators with hopes that their jewel Benzema would lead them on. Brandao's goal in the 79th minute gave Marseille victory after at Lorient. Yea, the 3rd team makes the CL playoffs but if Lyon played as they did against Bordeaux, they will surely not finish in the top 3. Resurgent PSG are a point behind and face Lyon this Friday. Also, PSG have a much easier run in than Lyon!
