I can see Wes Brown and/or Silvestre plus cash being paid in exchange for Berbatov – but in the summer.

Spurs are desperate for decent defenders and Brown and/or Silvestre would walk into the Spurs back four. Imagine Spurs with a back four comprising Chimbonda, Brown, King and Silvestre. A massive improvement on the present shambles. Spurs need a Wes Brown and/or Silvestre type defender more than they need Berbatov. All good teams have to be relatively secure at the back. Up front, Robbie Kean, Darren Bent and Jermaine Defoe will be able to provide all the goals Spurs need. Spurs should keep Defoe and sell Berbatov.

On the other hand, Berbatov would help take United to an even higher level. With Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez and Berbatov United would have the class and fire power to unlock even the tightest Italian defences. United still need that class act at number 9. Louis Saha is a shadow of his former self.

United cannot count on Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez being fit or available for every game. When Ronaldo or Rooney are injured or missing, United tend to struggle. United have been beaten 3 times this season(at City, Bolton and West Ham): Rooney was absent for all three defeats, and Ronaldo was missing for the first two. United could miss out on all the big prizes this season for lack of a top class (and fit!) centre forward.

United need Berbatov, and SAF appears to have wanted him for some time. In 2006 when RVN was sold, it appears that Fergie intended to replace him with Berbatov, but Berbatov decided that Spurs would suit him better. The fool! Last summer Spurs wouldn’t sell. I don’t see them selling in this transfer window.

what United??? sorry buddy its not going to be United and after all united have already sign striker n i feel united is looking for that kind of striker who is good in air and can do something different than what rooney n tevez lack, i.e, good in the air. So sorry for Berbatov’s fan but its the reality n i believe united now need to look for defenders; one at right and two as a cover of evra and centre backs

How could you positively claim we (United) made an offer? A striker is actually our second priority. Cover for Nevillier is the first one. So if theres money after that we talk strikers.

Hmmm, am I the only one with an inherent distrust of anything a player’s agent has to say. It seems like the often just claim that their player wants whatever they want.

you can’t say they dont need the money. they need a whole more defence (minus king who is brilliant), and the reported Â£40 million spurs war chest avaliable to ramos does not exist. Â£25 million for a player who doesn’t want to be there means 2 new defenders at least.

Spurs wouldnt want to sell him to any club.But these days when a player wants to leave there isnt much a club can do.He turned down united last time around because he was trying to be a smart ass.He thought spurs were becoming a Big Club.

John tucker , where was the heart beat 18 months ago when he turned down utd . not saying he won`t want to go there now but why should spurs sell him to another prem league club ? he still has 2 and half years on his contract and spurs don`t need the money so why should they sell him . wait until the summer then flog him to spain or italy.
