Agent: Berbatov should be allowed to leave Tottenham
Talk about royally screwing over your employer’s employers.
Emil Dantchev, Dimitar Berbatov’s agent, has told the Sun that he has talked to Daniel Levy about Berbatov’s future at Tottenham and that if a big club comes knocking for Berba in January (or next summer), he should be allowed to leave Tottenham for his sporting ambitions.
The transcript of interview is below – all I’m going to say is, nice timing Dantchev, hope you got paid well by SunSport for opening up Tottenham to needless (and vicious) rumour mongering in January. Any club willing to buy Berbatov is unlikely to spend the 20m or more that Tottenham will ask in return, so a move in January looks unlikely, unless someone pulls a 20-30m rabbit out of their club hats.
Emil Dantchev, with SunSport:
“I have already spoken to the Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy, and told him that if a club that corresponds to Dimitar’s class and ambition comes in with an offer that suits his current club in January, he would like to be allowed to go.
Dimitar is OK at Tottenham. I would not say he is happy. But his performances for the club are a testament to his commitment to the fans and his team-mates.
He has never stopped trying and scoring goals to help the team.
Fans must understand Dimitar is 27 next month and time is running out for him to play for a club that can match his ambition.
I would like to stress this is not about money. This is about sporting ambition.
Nor has it anything to do with new manager Juande Ramos. Dimitar is perfectly happy with Ramos and the way he is working.
But after Tottenham’s bad start to the season, it is unlikely they will have the chance to do something big this season.
It is a long-term plan for them. Dimitar wants to fulfill his potential and win trophies now.
He would definitely consider a move outside of England. That is not the issue. What matters is it is a club that matches his ambition and his level and there are only five or six around Europe.
Two clubs outside of England and one from the Premier League are interested in him.”
So that’s Manchester United and who else? Milan?

So that’s Manchester United and who else? Milan? what !! when was the last time Utd won in europe , 1999 . how about barca , real , liverpool or even inter (who has the best chance to win in europe). If spurs sell Berbatov they should refuse to sell to Utd (like utd did to liverpool) and sell him abroad . Utd always tap up players only to hold their hands up and say `was`nt us gov` , so in short Berbatov can move on but not to Utd, and not for less then £25 mil.
December 31st, 2007 @ 08:36rubberduck – to be fair the only Premier League club widely mentioned as being interested in Berbatov is United, which is why I mentioned them.
December 31st, 2007 @ 08:47Rubberduck,
Dont worry, Madrid will sell you the traitor. So wait till he is third or fourth in the pecking order. Go get him.
Grow up:)
December 31st, 2007 @ 10:01Raj , don`t like the same tatics then ? shame on you!
December 31st, 2007 @ 10:15I think there’s a curse by someone(maybe Alan Sugar or even Terry Venables or Martin Jol but he’s too recent) on Spurs. How long will they endure this “Sucker Punch” just when they are starting to improve?
December 31st, 2007 @ 10:45On the other hand, its ‘The SUN’ and thats about it…..
Rubber duck berbatov would move to united in a heart-beat.Liverpool?get real.wow the hatred for united on this site is unbelievable!wonder why?
December 31st, 2007 @ 11:50John tucker , where was the heart beat 18 months ago when he turned down utd . not saying he won`t want to go there now but why should spurs sell him to another prem league club ? he still has 2 and half years on his contract and spurs don`t need the money so why should they sell him . wait until the summer then flog him to spain or italy.
December 31st, 2007 @ 12:02Spurs wouldnt want to sell him to any club. But these days when a player wants to leave there isnt much a club can do.He turned down united last time around because he was trying to be a smart ass.He thought spurs were becoming a Big Club.
December 31st, 2007 @ 13:49you can’t say they dont need the money. they need a whole more defence (minus king who is brilliant), and the reported £40 million spurs war chest avaliable to ramos does not exist. £25 million for a player who doesn’t want to be there means 2 new defenders at least.
December 31st, 2007 @ 18:58Hmmm, am I the only one with an inherent distrust of anything a player’s agent has to say. It seems like the often just claim that their player wants whatever they want.
January 1st, 2008 @ 05:31Question rubber duck.
How could you positively claim we (United) made an offer? A striker is actually our second priority. Cover for Nevillier is the first one. So if theres money after that we talk strikers.
January 1st, 2008 @ 07:31what United??? sorry buddy its not going to be United and after all united have already sign striker n i feel united is looking for that kind of striker who is good in air and can do something different than what rooney n tevez lack, i.e, good in the air. So sorry for Berbatov’s fan but its the reality n i believe united now need to look for defenders; one at right and two as a cover of evra and centre backs
January 1st, 2008 @ 09:31Wow,imagine a prolific strike-partnership if United manage to get Dimitar Berbatov! This will probably be our team(4-2-3-1)
—————————-VDS—————————-
Gary Neville—Rio Ferdinand—Nemanja Vidic—Patrice Evra
————-Owen Hargreaves—Paul Scholes—————-
Cristiano Ronaldo——–Wayne Rooney———Carlos Tevez
———————-Dimitar Berbatov———————
Last Season’s Stats:
Wayne Rooney-25 goals & 16 assists 51 games
C.Ronaldo-23 goals & 20 assists 49 games
Dimitar Berbatov-23 goals 15 assists 49 games
United’s strikeforce will be simply magnificent! We will conquer the world & the Historic Treble will once again come back to Old Trafford, the Theatre of Dreams’!
January 1st, 2008 @ 10:53That team looks fly!
January 1st, 2008 @ 11:15AsrseneWanker you can tell u play heps of fifa!
January 1st, 2008 @ 11:22I can see Wes Brown and/or Silvestre plus cash being paid in exchange for Berbatov – but in the summer.
Spurs are desperate for decent defenders and Brown and/or Silvestre would walk into the Spurs back four. Imagine Spurs with a back four comprising Chimbonda, Brown, King and Silvestre. A massive improvement on the present shambles. Spurs need a Wes Brown and/or Silvestre type defender more than they need Berbatov. All good teams have to be relatively secure at the back. Up front, Robbie Kean, Darren Bent and Jermaine Defoe will be able to provide all the goals Spurs need. Spurs should keep Defoe and sell Berbatov.
On the other hand, Berbatov would help take United to an even higher level. With Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez and Berbatov United would have the class and fire power to unlock even the tightest Italian defences. United still need that class act at number 9. Louis Saha is a shadow of his former self.
United cannot count on Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez being fit or available for every game. When Ronaldo or Rooney are injured or missing, United tend to struggle. United have been beaten 3 times this season(at City, Bolton and West Ham): Rooney was absent for all three defeats, and Ronaldo was missing for the first two. United could miss out on all the big prizes this season for lack of a top class (and fit!) centre forward.
United need Berbatov, and SAF appears to have wanted him for some time. In 2006 when RVN was sold, it appears that Fergie intended to replace him with Berbatov, but Berbatov decided that Spurs would suit him better. The fool! Last summer Spurs wouldn’t sell. I don’t see them selling in this transfer window.
