Excellent article

I had forgotten about some of these but in particular the serial/professional imposter Karl Power. I watched a TV programme about him years ago and he also walked onto the Richard & Judy set and definitely got onto the podium of a Formula1 grand prix after the end of the race and before the winning driver came out.

have a look at an official picture of the ManU team and the picture after it is him in the ashes

Dan, I agree. The guy totally looked like Cantona. They should have let him play, too. Maybe United would have advanced if King Eric had been on hand to perform his magic.

I'm not sure if I'd argue that a player is justified in going into the stands and attacking a fan. After all, Ron Artest did the same thing and we all saw how ugly things got. You can't have athletes going into the stands and attacking fans, no matter how much provocation they have. It always ends poorly, and there are better ways to deal with a fan's idiocy. Ban them for life. Throw them in prison. Empty stadiums. Point deductions.

Fantastic article. Number 20 brought back memories. Too bad the photo of him in the team picture (all 12 members of Man Utd) wasn't the photo of choice because looking at it, you would have sworn it was Eric himself. Never knew that he actually told Gary Neville to "shut it" but it got me laughing.

And speaking of Cantona, he actually hailed that kung fu kick as a great memory and regrets only that he didn't fully land the kick on the fan he dubbed the "hooligan." Caused a rucous back in 1994-95 season when it happened, but I wonder if the allegations are true, that the Crystal Palace fan was spewing anti-French vitriol, if the same scenario were to happen if a fan were spewing racist tirades at a player and the player reacted, how we'd react. If a fan threw a banana at a black player and that same player reacted with physical violence, I'd almost feel the player's actions were justified. A debate for another time and place perhaps. Eric was legendary. And for a few seconds in 2001 it was nice to see him back.

Great article! Although I take exception with the Diana Ross thing. She's hardly an athlete, and her penalty shot was no worse than 80% of the PK's taken by the English national team over the last few years. Plus, it was hardly her worst moment. Anyone that saw her at the MTV Music Awards when she groped Little Kim's breast will attest to that!
