2 New Columns on Soccerlens
I hope you guys enjoyed your weekend. I know I did.
The April Fools’ day spoof interviews were a blast to write, and they did some good publicity for the site.
Let’s face it - it’s the only day I can be worse than Tribal Football and get away with it
On to more serious matters - from today, Soccerlens will be running two new columns.
1. Daily Football News Roundup
You might have caught the ‘daily news roundup’ column last week. I’ve tried that format before and I think that if I do a good job of covering all the news sources then you, the reader, only has one site and one page to check on every day to get their daily football news fix.
If you have any suggestions, please let me know. I’ll be improving it as I go along and will try to add more news sources.
At present I’m covering all ‘interesting’ Prem news, transfer news, international and european news, and the occasional bits from Spain and Italy.
I’d like to cover other sources as well, but it’s a gradual process and I hope to be able to give you what I’m promising: A ’starting’ page for all football news.
2. Help Football
That’s not a final name for the column, but it conveys the idea pretty well.
For a long time now I’ve been worried about the sensationalism and bias in football reporting. I’ve been guilty of it myself a few times, but some sites that I’ve seen are absolutely horrible.
But that’s not the only key issue in football - we have many, many things that need to be discussed and brought to light.
Here’s are a few topics off the top of my head:
- Standing vs Sitting at football grounds - research supports the notion that safe standing stadiums are possible - why isn’t the English FA doing anything about it?
- Ticket prices - are they too high, or, as West Ham’s chairman Eggert Magnusson puts it, is it a farcical complaint perpetrated by the media?
- From 2008-2009 onwards, goal line technology will be implemented in the Premier League. There are many ways we can use video tech to help referees, I intend to use this column to discuss them in full detail
- Footballing wages - too much or not, and why does it matter?
- How can we change football’s rules to help referees with making key decisions on fouls, penalties and cards?
There’s a lot to discuss. This won’t be a daily column - I think a weekly article will be fine considering that these will be longer pieces, but maybe I’ll post more frequently if something new comes up.
The first piece will probably be posted on Thursday once the CL brouhaha has died down and we’re able to focus on other matters.
Once again, feedback and ideas are welcome.
These are just two of the many changes I’m planning for Soccerlens in these two months. I’ve asked you for feedback several times now, and this is the first step in implementing those suggestions.
For now, please enjoy the site, let me know what you think about it and if you want, sign up to start writing on Soccerlens.
