10 Things I Hate About the World Cup

10. Poor football from rubbish teams. Put in another qualification round and leave 16 teams in the end, please.

9. Poor decision-making from inexperienced rubbish referees.

8. Droning commentators (Why is it that Octagon buys the same commentary feed as the Carling Cup? Maybe because the quality of football is on the same level).

7. “Dunya Goal Hai” on ESPN India (Those two cunts are the biggest argument in favour of capital punishment after El Hadji Diouf).

6. The hype surrounding England and their percentage-man coach.

5. Olympic-level diving performances from twats like Sorin (Gold: Argentina, Silver: Paraguay, Bronze: South Korea).

4. How people who know next to nothing about the sport, and never really watch it, are all of a sudden football experts. This breed of bottom-feeders shows up in public viewing areas every two years at the Euro and World Cups. Stay in your holes, please. You’re not fooling anyone but your own kind.

3. The E.T. lookalike on SuperSport mentioning “The Magic of African Football” every 27 seconds after a rubbish performance from one of their teams. The only thing magical about that is how they made it to the World Cup in the first place.

2. Did I mention the Suddenly Susan football ‘fans’?

1. Gloryhunting Chelsea ‘fans’ saying “Yaar, we should buy him” at every player that seems to do something right with the ball.

After watching Duniya Gol Hai for the last week, I admit to missing the show when I switched on SuperSports 3 at home :)

Diving (and poor refereeing) are a big, big problem at this World Cup.

Rubbish football? You must mean France v Switzerland, right? :)

The thing I hate most about World Cups, given that I’m in England, is the compulsive desire to cover EVERYTHING IN SIGHT with a St. George cross. Why do people do this? Sure, I’ll put on an England shirt like everyone else when we’re actually PLAYING that day, but more than that, if you ask me, is just a teensy bit over the top.

Also why is it every advert has to have some football-related theme, like newspaper ads where you’re supposed to buy a TV because there’s a footballer on it/standing next to it…

People Put England flags out for an extremely good reason. To Show some Pride in a country lacking it, we are a Great Nation with a Great history, so why not fly the flag? Go abroad and they fly it any day of the year, e.g. USA. So how is it bad to fly it for 4 weeks every 2 years?

That bit about the neo-chelsea fans is too correct. There are quite a lot of those specimens around. You guys forgot one though. And thats all those diehard Brazil fans, who dont watch any league football, but come world cup, they go bring on brazil. My favourite part of the world cup, france humping the hell out of brazil the last two times they met…………..

World Cup is great, When Australia qualified for the first time in 32 years and our second perfonmance there, every single Ozzie watched every game we played, our nation of footy turned to a nation of the round ball…It was amazing, 13,000 in melbourne at 2 in th emorining watching football..Great

I enjoy the world cup in general, but your list left out my personal #1: the concept of “deciding” the cup on penalties…I admit that as a former goalie, I despise this approach to a match, but what really bothers is me is that the last world cup was full of games played for PK, not for the win…to me that made for unenjoyable soccer…(yes im american, that may also be why i hate PKs, we do seem to prefer sudden death in our sports)…

Kyle, your comment is exactly why i love world cup…and will watch next time too

I used to be a keeper and I love penalty shoot outs!

I think the World Cup is fine as it is. I’m sick of all these bell end style changes that apparently need to be made to perfectly good competitions – eg the European club competitions.

The last World Cup wasn’t necessarily a ‘classic’ but only because players are shagged out due to all the club matches they need to play nowadays in order to line everyone but the fans pockets full of cash.

I prefer the Champions League and even the European Championships. The quality of CL football is much better than the World Cup one, look at all the good players who have never played in a World Cup but have played in every Champions League season or almost; Weah, Shevchenko, Giggs, etc.

Where was you’re fucking italian flag at olympic hockey time? O yeah it was in the garage while you waved a Canadian flag. Fuckers only claim patronage to their countries when its convenient for them. God damn you all!

I hate the fact that after 2 years together my other half seems to think that because Englands first game is on the night we get to see each other that i would happily sit and be ignored for 2 hours whilst watching something i have absolutely no interest in. Nice to know that when it comes down to it he doesn’t want to miss Englands first game but is more than happy to miss seeing me!!!
