10 reasons why Barcelona have lost it all…

Written by Jay Maniyar

Here are ten reasons why Barcelona can no longer call the shots, or at least title-winning shots:

1) The side is very poorly organised. Despite a positive start against Real Madrid at home, they clearly went off track against more disciplined Los Merengues(who weren’t brilliant themselves, but smarter). When you see four defenders closing down on a single opposition attacker and leaving too much space for the supporting forwards, you sense that something is wrong.

2) Barcelona’s best player on the night was Andres Iniesta. Actually, Barca’s best player is Andres Iniesta despite the breathtaking displays of Leo Messi. But even he wasn’t rightly used yesterday. He started out on the right, but his trademark mazy runs were all from the left, which meant he was more comfortable with that position and Frank Rijkaard’s failure to realize this cost them.

3) Ronaldinho & Deco put in their worst displays of the season. Although Ronaldinho had a few decent touches and shots on target, he failed in the eyes of the millions of viewers of El Clasico. He might be on his way out now for sure, but it’s unlikely that such a player moves on in January.

4) Young players like Bojan Krkic and Giovani Dos Santos have proved enough to show that they deserve starts. Then why didn’t Rijkaard give at least Dos Santos a chance to replace the irreplacable Leo Messi. Bojan’s 12-minute display was actually more passion-provoking than any of the other Barca duds.

5) It was Rijkaard’s fault yesterday. No longer can you completely blame the players. To trust a half-fit Deco and a vacationing-in-hell Ronaldinho was a suicidal mistake. His tactical prowess is no longer holding out and too many teams have understood Barca’s fairly-predictable movement.

6) President Joan Laporta’s ever-confusing statements on faith in Ronaldinho need to be done away with. I think he openly needs to state whether the club are keen on keeping him and if they are, then how will they handle the seemingly un-interested former World Player of the Year.

7) Barcelona need an injection of inspiration sooner rather than later and their over-dependence on Messi will not ease their current problems in the long run. After all, Messi was injured for the best part of last two seasons and even his stylish return to form last time out did not spark a third straight title.

8 ) The improvement in the form of Real Madrid is another reason. That is largely out of Barca’s control. It is more in the hands of a former Blaugurana midfielder, Bernd Schuster. Madrid were 13 points clear in La Liga when they last beat Barca at the Nou Camp in 2003. And the Catalans finished two places above them. But Madrid were far too inconsistent and were about to witness a classic demolition of the Galactico era. This time, that is highly unlikely.

9) The failure of the Fantastic Four is a huge let down. It was always impossible to make the four work together and even if they had managed to do that, it would have been a way too attack-minded side.

10) Lack of decisions. From the president and the coach. 7 points is a huge gap and if Madrid don’t stumble, they are worthy champions. Forget that though. What is the guarantee that Barca wont stumble further….

What do you guys think?

barca need new fire power..although the likes of rolandinho & deco r still world beaters, it seems that a kind of fatigue has crept in their game..the summer arrivals were mostly defensive players but there real problems are up front.. they need a new superstar upfront …christiano ronaldo maybe..

  2. they need a manager who can get them organised and infuse some passion and discipline into the side.they looked lazy and disinterested against madrid..if they think new players are the solution..they are lost..

  3. Ronaldo??In their sleep you mean? There is only one ronaldo they can get, and he aint slim nomore.

  4. 25/12/2007 true barca

well (gov) a new manager might be a solution.. but please no mourinho. he will destroy barca…& christiano ronaldo will come crawlin to barca if they want him.. barca is bigger than manu in every way u luk at..

  5. 25/12/2007 abiodun

well all i have to surgest is that i will like the management to give a try to the pearing of etoo and henry and we see the positive out com, because bringing ronaldinho out of the team migth affect the play of etoo because there is a kind of understanding between them.

  6. 25/12/2007 grassak

they need everything ….. ronaldinho is past .. man doesnt want to play :) … but there is iniesta … or henry who played that position in arsenal ….. coach is OK …. remember that the most beautiful football is played when he came ….. but he needs help … he needs good assistant … and dont forget that c ronaldo wants to play for madrid …. madrid destroyed barca at camp nou and that is painful … but try to get over it :)

  7. 25/12/2007 grassak

and Man U is way better team than Barca :) :)

Both Ronnie and Rijkaard are the reason why we are in such a mess. Rijkaard’s faith in trying suit Ronnie at the expence of the team, finally has now surpassed stupid and has now reached deranged. Last season everyone turned on Eto’o for his fued with Ronnie, with that public outburst. Instead of Rijkaard addressing the problem and resolving it, he escalated it by choosing allience with Ronnie (look at Fergie’s response to the Roonie and Christiano incident at the last World Cup). That’s why the fool brought in this waste of space Henry, so Eto’o could be pushed out. Rijkaard hasn’t even dealt with these 2 egos, and he has now added henry’s into the mix. With Ronnie’s apparant interest with things off the field, such as booze, women, partying etc, people tried to put the blame on Eto’o. Barca’s decline has coincided with Eto’o absence, as he was the only one who challenged Ronnie. Eto’o 2 injuries in different stages in 2 seasons have shown, at least it is not his fault. Eto’o did not make Ronnie give up all manners of professonalism off and on the field, to the extent Ronnie now, at best, chooses his training sessions. The resolution for Barca is SELL RONNIE!! He has forgotten he needs Brasil and Barca not the other way round, those 2 will still continue success without him. If Rijkaard doesn’t see this, he also should FUCK OFF

  9. 25/12/2007 Nerazzurri

    They’re too over-confident as well.

If we get Messi (which is sadly unlikely), then Barca are in for more trophy droughts.

  10. In short Barcelona needs DISCIPLINE! Real Madrid’s game plan anyone??? What Barcelona need in a coach right now is a coach that can handle egos or at least get rid of some egos to harmonize the squad.

  11. it is signings we madein the last two seasons that has put us in this situation.

1.abidal - great defender but lacks the flair goin forward &
with ronnie failing to get pass defenders we needed a left back who could overlap.
    2. zambrotta - worthless consedering the money v paid 4 him.
3.gudjhonsen - i dont know why they bought him ..

whereas madrid bought pepe, robben ,snejider ,marcelo,nistelroy.. they have the upper hand in transfer market .. hence in la liga as well

  12. Rds - I completely disagree. Abidal is arguably the best left back in La Liga, and one of the best in the world. His attacking play is not the greatest but he is exceptionally solid defensively and a good passer of the ball. Zambrotta needs a run of games, as does Gudjohnsen. Far more bemusing was the signing of Henry.

  13. 25/12/2007 iqnadirshah

And people were busy predicting Arsenal’s demise with Henry leaving. Anyway everyone from Cryuff to Laporta, from Eto’o to Ronaldinho, from Rijkaard to the Camp Nou faithful were welcoming Henry with open arms and couldnt wait for the season to start to unleash the ‘fantastic 4′…

  14. 25/12/2007 James_Greece

Real Madrid went shopping in Manchester, and that’s the reason they’re becoming better and better. Barcelona should’ve learned from the Real-Galacticos era that collecting stars is good only for selling replica shirts. If Ronaldo joined Barca, he would be a shirt-seller and nothing more.
In the end of the day, you all need a Fergie, but there’s only one and his heart belongs to UNITED! Cheers!

  15. As a Spurs fan I am slightly worried that Barca will make a move for Berbatov if, as expected, Ronaldinho departs for pastures new.

If you think about it, it sort of makes sense. I don’t personally believe that he wants to leave us (the body-language argument and his frustration with those around him is part of his aura, and was present last season too. Much like when Henry was at Arsenal.) but if Spurs got a huge offer from a non-English side they may take it.

He’s arguably our biggest talent at present but if we can’t offer European football next season it might serve for us to spring-clean a little (fringe players and possibly Chimbonda) and as much as losing Dimitar would hurt us, in the long run the money spent on new, hungry talent might bode well for the future.

Of course like any sane fan I hope he signs a contract in the summer with a clause that if we don’t make the Champions League in the following two seasons he can leave for a fixed sum. Time will tell!

I agree with Iqnadirshah. All you Barca fans were Henry-crazy when he went over & he hasn’t done too badly so far. Just coz he can’t reproduce the same form he had with Arsenal doesn’t mean he’s absolute shite now. Don’t blame all your problems on Henry. Your team just isn’t firing the same way it used to & that’s mainly an attitude problem really. I wouldn’t blame Ronaldinho completely either. You guys are heaping waaaay too m uch pressure on him as it is, the same way you’re doing to Messi right now.

Just use your players properly. Their talent didn’t disappear overnight. All they need is motivation in the right way. Stop believing the crap the newspapers say & look at the whole picture. You have a good team. You have a good coach. You’re still in the CL & still in the running for the La Liga title. Support your team & support your players. Otherwise what the fuck kind of fans are you anyway?

  17. rds, how can you put blame for the lacklustre performances of the team on these three signings? I have to say I agree with Hugo on this one. Abidal is a great fullback, Zambrotta needs more runs out, and Gudjohnsen has been one of the most consistant performers in the team after he started playing more. Gudjohnsen (I think started in 6 or 7 last games before the RM game) has made a really good contribution and one of Barcas best games this season was the one against Valencia, where he was one of the best two or three players on the pitch (with Iniesta who is the best player of Barcelona).

I think the problem is Rijkaard and his relationship with Laporta (who is probably calling for Deco and Ronnie to be played. The boss needs to have backbone and stand up to the president and keep a disiplined squad. And how can it help Ronaldinho get back to love his football and to play with passion for the club he loves(loved?) when the fans won’t back him up (I saw a clip online where he was even booed an jeered on the airport by Barcelona fans).

Barcelona fans need to stop acting like spoiled kids and start showing their true support, nothing is lost yet, and all is still to be won.

  18. SACK RIJKAARD! SACK RIJKAARD!!!

  19. It Shouldn’t be 10, it should be UNLIMITED!!!

  20. 26/12/2007 aphextwin

i think they should give Giovanni dos santos more play time since he is very passionate and has some mad skills and very fast something that is lacking in barcelona the passion and speed, damn i wish deco was back in shape hes the backbone of that team, picture it deco, iniesta, messi, giovanni dos santos and bojan it would be like la ligas own arsenal youth speed and a captain to guide them (deco) froget the big guys they dont need them dinho he is useless for barcelona at the moment

  21. 26/12/2007 I cum from Ipanema for Brazilans

Ronny should have his dick sucked by Messi. That’ll make him realise he’s got to perform on the field to bag the hunnies off the field. Otherwise, he’ll be stuck with ugly, poxy women who look like Lionel Messi (don’t get me wrong, Messi’s okay-looking, just not as a woman). He’s not pretty enough to have porn stars throw themselves at him (a la Ronaldo) and he’s not even charismatic enough to have sex-kitten fembots offer to suck him off whenever he wants (Laporta in his deluded fantasy world of the Fab 4). He’ll finally realise he’s a butt-ugly fucker who’s too lazy to get ahead, too sleazy to get laid, and he’s only got one shot of bagging quality tail - his talent to bamboozle footballers. And that’ll motivate the flashy, buck-tooth, wannabe gangster nymphomaniac to get back to his 2002-05 form.

  22. 26/12/2007 I cum from Ipanema for Brazilans

You know I’m right. I’m Ipanema Bob.

  23. I couldn’t agree with Jay. Both Gio and Bojan have already proven themselves a countless number of times and do indeed deserve to be started. Both Deco and Ronaldinho had a bad game, but i still see that they could make a difference if they were positioned correctly. In the little time that both Bojan and Dos Santos had to play, they created more opportunities than the team had at the beginning. SALUD!

barca need 2 frcous on their young players like Bojan Krkic, Giovani Dos Santos, Messi and Iniesta and not to worry too much about ther older playees. frank needs to give the young ones confidence with starts!

  26. 27/12/2007 harasuke

Ronaldo 2 barca? possibility: 0 percent.

eto’o out? yes plz. to lfc…

    end of era. yes.
along with milan ac. arsenal… beat them n they lose kaka, prestige, n everything

  27. I believe rijkaard is picking the wrong team.

Earlier in the season Iniesta played amazing on the left, henry in the middle .. we never lacked goals and we were scoring some pretty ones. Henry was scoring as well; even if they were mostly rebounds/tapins and the media was not satisified. The team was full of nice moves and nice combinations. Yaya was playing very well in front of defence (we missed him when he was injured) and abidal was good. The team was amazing to watch.

I know left wing is not iniesta’s ideal position but ronaldinho is playing much better as a substitute (if we need play to get wider).

We missed deco while he was injured. He is key in attacks coming from the line. Eto’o has only just come back but i prefer him to henry.

  28. Ipanema your just a stupid cock sucking twat you wouldnt get pussy if your mom offerd it to you barca are the best team in the world and they will succeed

  29. 28/12/2007 Aayush

ipanema and azulgara should both shut up with the swearing here…discuss football or get lost…

  30. 28/12/2007 KakaTheMaster

Ronaldo said his dream was to play spanish football so its obvious Barcelona will contact him. If he goes or not.. well thats a different arguement. There is no passion in there play its as if football is no longer a hobbie and just a job to them. Its quite clear that the top 4 english teams are top 4 in the world. Foreign football has really lost its touch my Ac Milan and Barcelona are great examples.

  31. how did u figure that one buddy .. top 4 in the world .. do you only watch that league.

  32. 29/12/2007 I cum on Ipanema at Brazilian hotties

Aayush, I was discussing the tragedy of Ronaldinho’s stunning collapse in form, and the reasons behind it. I believe it’s highly relevant to the discussion. And I felt it necessary to put it in *ahem* “graphic” terms. To recap, Ronaldinho has won everything in a 4 year period. The only way to get him to recapture his hunger, desire, form, etc., is to get him to realise what he’s missing. What he’s missing is found, conveniently enough, on the opposite flank in the form of the diminutive (and quite homely) Argentine Leo Messi.

I’m sorry that people lke azulgara and yourself only read things literally, and can’t grasp a metaphor. Please much forgiveness, if much offense was given. But I did not swear, not once. And it’s not my fault that azulgara is uncouth, ill-educated, and a Barca fan to boot (my deepest sympathies to you all).

And KakaMaster, don’t you realise that the only two English teams that are world-class are Arsenal and Man Utd? And that one of them’s underdeveloped and the other one is populated by jerks? I only watch the EPL as well, but even I know that it’s not the bees knees.

  33. 29/12/2007 KakaTheMaster

I watch the spanish league more than the EPL i only watch match of the day i dont watch any live english games. Except for champions league and Liverpool and Arsenal are a team that impress me the most but can tell that United and Chelsea are good too as they made it to the semis last year.
